Screem Gems has been looking for their lead in the adaptation of Priest and it appears an ex-Phantom is ready to step in.

According to Variety, Screen Gems is currently in negotiations with Gerard Butler to have him star in Priest.

The film, directed by Amityville Horror helmer Andrew Douglas, is based on Tokyopop's graphic novel created by Min-Woo Hyung.

Considered a vampire western, the story tells of a warrior priest who disobeys church law by teaming with a sheriff and a priestess to track down a band of renegade vampires who have kidnapped his niece.

Fortunately for the priest, the actor is currently building up his shape on the set of 300 as we speak.

Gerard Butler protagonizará la adaptación de la novela gráfica "Priest"

Luego de ser "El fantasma de la ópera", Gerard Butler se prepara para convertirse en un sacerdote cazavampiros en "Priest", la versión cinematográfica de la novela gráfica homónima de Min-Woo Hyung, que producirá Sam Raimi y dirigirá Andrew Douglas para Sony Pictures.

En "Priest", un western de terror post-apocalíptico, Butler será un sacerdote que desoye a las autoridades de la Iglesia y se lanza a la misión de rescatar a su sobrina de una banda de vampiros con la ayuda de un joven sheriff -que podría ser interpretado por Steven Strait, visto en "Sky High" y filmando actualmente "10.000 B.C."- y una sacerdotisa.

Llama la atención que Sony haya tomado este proyecto poco después de haber otorgado la luz verde a "30 Days of Night", otro film que se basa en un cómic y sigue a un sheriff -al que dará vida Josh Hartnett- y su esposa en su intento por salvar a su pueblo del asedio de un grupo de vampiros, unas criaturas de la noche que llegan cuando el sol se pone en esta ciudad de Alaska durante un mes.

Butler acaba de finalizar el rodaje de "Butterfly on a Wheel", junto a Pierce Brosnan y Maria Bello, y también interviene en la esperada "300", de Zack Snyder, inspirada en la obra de Frank Miller.

Gerard Butler (Tomb Raider: a origem da vida, O fantasma da ópera) mal terminou a adaptação para as telas da história em quadrinhos 300 e já aparece vinculado a outro filme do gênero.

Segundo a Variety e o The Hollywood Reporter, Butler atualmente negocia para viver personagem principal do faroeste vampírico Priest, baseado na HQ coreana de Hyung Min-Woo.

Na trama - que parece distinta da HQ - o filme mostrará um padre pistoleiro (Butler) que desobedece as leis da Igreja ao aliar-se com um jovem xerife e uma sacerdotisa para encontrar o bando de vampiros que sequestrou sua neta.

O estreante Steven Strait - atualmente filmando 10,000 B.C. de Roland Emmerich - deve ficar com o papel do xerife.

Dirigido por Andrew Douglas, de Horror em Amityville, com produção de Mike De Luca, Sam Raimi e Josh Donen, o filme da Sony Screen Gems e Ghost House Pictures - empresa de Sam Raimi - começará a ser filmado dia 1º de outubro no México.

Gerard Butler - The "Priest"

Maybe his name it's not telling us something... Or at least not to many from us. But, we defintally know him from a few movies like "Timeline", the most recent "Phantom of the Opera" or his debut "Dracula 2000". He was actually Dracula... And yes, this time Gerard came back to play in another hollywood-vampire-movie.

But this time he will not play a vampire, but a priest. The movie it's called itself "Priest" and it's a vampire-western that is based on a comic book, who's creator is Min-Woo Hyung. They have to track down a group of vampires and save the priest's niece from their hands.

The one who will direct the movie will be Andrew Douglas, the same person who is responsabile for the movie "Amityville Horror". Cory Goodman made the screenplay. Michael De Luca, Josh Donen, Sam Raimi and Mitchell Peck will be the producers of the movie.

Priest est un manhwa (= manga coréen) atypique, le thème choisit est plutôt rare dans l’univers mangatique le western, sujet vraiment casse-gueule au risque de tomber dans un bon nombre de clichés. Je trouve que Priest les bouscules et nous offre pour le moment une histoire vraiment intéressante. Attention, la violence est plus qu’omniprésente et le sang coule à flots, mais s’il n’y avait que ça l’intérêt s’amenuiserait au fil des tomes, et là ce n’est pas le cas, le scénario étant basé sur la religion, la foi et l’amour.


Ces trois mots sont le fil conducteur de l’histoire, avec bien sûr la mission du héros : Ivan Isaak, rongé par son passé et son activité de prête, l’amour qu’il portait à une femme... Je n’en dirais pas plus pour ne pas gâcher le plaisir. Ce manhwa ne cible pas un public religieux ou athée, malgré que je pencherais plus pour la deuxième catégorie, car toutes les croyances sont remises en cause (l’auteur a pour référence des films comme Le Nom de la Rose, Dracula…). C’est parfois très dur et l’émotion nous prend aux tripes. J’apprécie particulièrement la façon dont l’auteur a géré l’action omniprésente, les phases d’enquête, de réflexions et de doutes.
Sur le plan technique, le manhwa est une merveille graphique, le plus beau que j’ai eu l’occasion de voir (je le compare à Nihei Tsutomu auteur de Blame!). Les textures sont sublimes, et que dire des protagonistes qui vivent d’une vraie identité, Ivan est tout simplement bluffant et charismatique aussi bien dans les phases d’action où le démon se réveille en lui que dans les flash-backs où il était encore prêtre. Les combats sont superbes et l’intensité nous prend au point de vivre l’aventure avec notre prêtre déchu.
Au final, je le conseille aux personnes aimant l’action certes, mais aussi les scénarios bien sombres, l’univers western-zombie-démon biblique et également à ceux qui aiment les histoires d’amour, les vraies.

SONO SEMPLICEMENTE FELICISSIMA!
Avevo sentito parlare di questo fumetto da dei miei amici a scuola e come tutte la opere orientali, aspettiamoci personaggi molto chiaro-scurali come carattere, complessi e tormentati.
E poi, ragazze...Sam Raimi come produttore!Io sono convinta che verrà fuori qualcosa di buono e per quanto riguarda gli altri film del Nostro, purtroppo l'attesa sarà anche lunga...ma solo perché siamo pur sempre in Italia, dove tutto arriva sempre, inesorabilmente, DOPO...che volete, sono un'ottimista in fondo!

Sam Raimi è il regista dei film tratti dai fumetti di Spiderman.
Fra tutti i supereroi trasportati nel cinema questo mi sembra quello che ha sofferto meno, anzi forse ha guadagnato.
L'umanità del personaggio è rimasta e non è stata spazzata via dagli effetti speciali.

In questo caso Sam Raimi è il produttore, ma credo che la sua impronta la ritroveremo nella scelta del regista/sceneggiatori/attori ecc.

Speaking of Gerard Butler

The programing for this year's San Diego Comic-Con has yet to be announced, although based on the amount of email everyone is getting about whether they will be on panels or not, it's imminent. The one thing we've been telling everyone who wants us to be on their panel is, "If it's up against Gerard Butler, we can't do it."

Now, we don't know for SURE that dear, dear Gerard Butler will be at San Diego, but if 300 isn't one of the movies that gets its own spotlight, we'll eat our hat, your hat, and Gerard Butler's hat. And what would a movie spotlight be with the star? So is this a date with destiny, a rendezvous with Rama, a waiting for Guffman for The Beat? Developing.

Questa notizia è semplicemente grandiosa!!!
Speriamo che tutto venga definito al più presto, non vedo l'ora!!! Ho sempre adorato i film tratti dai fumetti ed ero già al settimo cielo per 300! Ma sapere che ci sarà un film su Priest e che ad interpretarlo ci sarà GB, mi rende ancora più felice. Se poi a produrlo è un genio come Sam Raimi... beh è inutile aggiungere altro! Speriamo bene!!!

Sarà un successone! Deve esserlo, con Gerry!!!

Speriamo che non faccia la fine di 300
sono tutti bei filmoni, ma guardacaso non sono distribuiti.......
