A high-rise hotel in Tokyo.
Un hotel di lusso a Tokio. Our interviewer is fluent English speaker Nakamura Masatoshi.

Back in his college days, Nakamura belonged to Keio University's famed English Society.
In 1988, he appeared in a play where all his lines were in English. He still has a genuine passion for English.
Nakamura Masatoshi (NM): Even though I have no time, I try to make an effort to memorize in a short time. If you want to memorize something you need a kind of will. If you have a will there is a way.
Se hai forza di volontà il sistema c’è.Who will he be talking to?
Con chi parlerà?Phantom of the Opera. The musical version thrilled 80 million people. Set in the 19th century at the Paris Opera House, it's the story of a complicated relationship between a mysterious phantom and a prima donna.
Nakamura is going to interview two stars of the movie: Gerard Butler, the Phantom, and Emmy Rossum, the prima donna.
You have to sing many songs. So how did you feel? It's very difficult to sing?
NM: Avete dovuto cantare molte canzoni. Come vi siete sentiti? E’ molto difficile cantare?Emmy Rossum (ER): Yes, very difficult songs to sing, more so for Gerry than it was for me because I had had some music training when I was a child. When I was seven years old I went to the Metropolitan Opera in New York. And I trained there and I sang for five years. When Phantom came up, I hadn't been singing for five years so I really had to kind of gear back up and kind of remember how to ride the bicycle.
Gerard Butler (GB): I had to learn how to ride the bicycle.
Gerard Butler (GB): Io, invece, ho dovuto imparare ad andare in bicicletta.
NM: Your voice sounds sexy, very sexy.
I heard you were once a rock singer.
We played in pubs and clubs and bars in Scotland. It didn't really, in my book, give me any kind of training for this movie. I felt like I had to start from scratch.
And for me, it was much more important, rather than somebody saying, well, "Didn't he sing that song beautifully?", that they would feel what you were going through.
NM: About on the roof of the opera house, it took three or five days to take the kiss scene.
The Phantom is overcome with jealousy when he sees the two lovers kissing on the roof. This critical scene took three days to film. But suddenly the conversation heads in a strange direction.
GB: Yeah, I was watching that for three days.
NM: All you had to do was just watch and listen to the sound of kissing. So it took three days?
ER: Well, what happened was I'd kissed him for three days and by the end of the three days my lips, from kissing him so much, were so swollen. Do you remember I had to use that ice pack? I had an ice pack. Yeah.
NM: Oh, let me know your lips.
NM: Oh, fammi conoscere le tue labbra.( o: fatemi conoscere le vostre labbra)
GB: You want to know my lips? Oh, my God.
GB: Tu vuoi conoscere le mie labbra? Oh, Mio Dio!ER: I'm too young for this conversation.
ER: Sono troppo giovane per questa conversazione.NM: I wanted to see your lips.
NM: Volevo vedere le tue labbra (o : le vostre…)
ER: I'm too young for this conversation. I'm only 18.
GB: To say, "Let me know your lips"!
GB: dire, ”Lasciami conoscere le tue labbra”!
NM: Just forget it. Forget it.
NM: Dimenticatelo, dimenticatelo. Thanks! That was a lot of fun!
Grazie! E’ stato molto divertente!NM: All I want to say is become accustomed to using English or speaking English. Anyway, try!
Quello che voglio dire è abituatevi a usare l’inglese o a parlare in inglese. In ogni caso, provateci!
